Bucharest train departed yesterday

The overnight train service between Istanbul and Bucharest started with the first departure from Istanbul yesterday.

The train departs from Halkali station. There are 4-berth couchettes, 2 and 3-berth sleepers in the train. 2-berth sleepers of Romanian Railways (CFR) has toilet and shower inside the cabinet.

Similar to last year, Bucharest train will run during June-September this year.

The travel time is between 17-19 hours. Tickets are available starting from € 51.

The train departs every night from Halkali and arrives Bucharest next evening. Return is about noon from Bucharest and arrives Halkali in the morning.

Due to Marmaray engineering works, the train departs from Halkali. Starting with next year, the train is planned to depart from Sirkeci station.

  1. It will be great news when the international services return to Sirkeci!

I think the plan with Marmaray was to add a third track to prevent long distance services from getting stuck behind the suburban stopping service (thus improving the journey time for the long distance services compared to what they were before the Marmaray disruption since 2013). Is this still the plan?
